This private Giza Pyramids Half Day Tour is designed for travelers who want to experience the Giza Plateau at their own pace, without crowded buses or rushed schedules. Your guide meets you at your hotel, drives you to the plateau and stays with you the whole time.
Along the way, your Egyptologist shares the stories behind the monuments: who built the pyramids, how the giant limestone blocks were moved, and why the Sphinx still puzzles historians today. You also get plenty of time for photos, including the famous panoramic viewpoint where all the main pyramids line up in one frame.
Whether it’s your first time in Cairo, you’re traveling with kids, or you simply prefer a quiet private experience, the Giza Pyramids Half Day Tour fits easily into your morning or afternoon and leaves the rest of the day free.

Your Egyptologist guide meets you at your hotel or chosen pickup point in Cairo or Giza. Relax in your private air-conditioned car on the way to the Giza Plateau while your guide gives you a short introduction to the day.
Duration: about 30 minutes
Start at the panoramic viewpoint, where you can see the three main pyramids together against the desert. It’s the classic photo of every Giza trip, and your guide will help you find the best angles.
Duration: about 15 minutes
Continue to the Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the three main pyramids. Your guide explains who Menkaure was and points out the red granite casing stones brought from Aswan in southern Egypt, still visible at the base.
Duration: about 30 minutes
Next is the Pyramid of Khafre, the second-largest pyramid at Giza. Because it stands on higher ground, it often looks taller than the Great Pyramid. Look up to see the remains of its original smooth limestone casing near the top — the only pyramid at Giza that still has it.
Duration: about 30 minutes
Discover the Great Pyramid of Khufu, built for Pharaoh Khufu more than 4,500 years ago. It was the tallest man-made structure in the world for thousands of years. Learn about its remarkable engineering and, if you like, buy a separate ticket to go inside.
Duration: about 1 hour
Finish at the Great Sphinx, the giant statue with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh, carved from the bedrock of the plateau. Your guide shares the main theories about who built it and why.
Right next to it is the Valley Temple of Khafre, built from massive granite blocks. It was part of the funeral complex where the pharaoh’s body was prepared before burial.
Duration: about 45 minutes
Relax in your private air-conditioned car as you are driven back to your hotel or drop-off point in Cairo or Giza.
Duration: about 30 minutes
Important: Entrance tickets are not included in the tour price. You can buy them at the site, and your guide will help you choose the right ones. For opening hours and news about the site, see the official Egyptian Monuments website of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
On every Giza Pyramids Half Day Tour, free hotel pickup and drop-off are included from hotels and selected accommodations in Cairo and Giza. Share your hotel name or address when booking, and we will confirm your exact pickup time.
Pickup from Cairo International Airport may also be possible — just ask when you book.
The plateau opens early in the morning, and the first hours are the best: the light is soft, the air is cooler and there are fewer visitors. From October to April the weather is pleasant almost all day. In summer, a morning start is strongly recommended because the desert gets very hot by midday.
A few simple tips make your Giza Pyramids Half Day Tour much more comfortable:
The three main pyramids were built during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty, about 4,500 years ago, as royal tombs for three pharaohs: Khufu, his son Khafre, and Menkaure. Together with the Great Sphinx and several smaller queens’ pyramids and temples, they form one of the most famous archaeological sites on Earth.
The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one still standing. The whole area is protected as part of the Memphis and its Necropolis UNESCO World Heritage Site, which also includes Saqqara and Dahshur.
Seeing it all with an Egyptologist turns the stones into stories — and that’s what makes a private tour so different from visiting on your own.
The Giza Pyramids Half Day Tour is perfect if you are short on time, arriving or leaving Cairo the same day, or traveling with young children. You see all the main monuments of the plateau with expert explanations, and you are back at your hotel in about five hours.
If you have a full day, you can add more of ancient Egypt to the same trip:
